Contrastive Pragmatics in a Diachronic Perspective: Insights from Othello

Abstract The paper provides an overview of the interface contrastive and historical pragmatics a case study Othello’s monologue. emerging lines development at cross-roads cover, in particular, speech acts, forms discursive behaviour stance. In analysis, German, Swedish, Finnish Polish translations from different periods are compared to show differences above-mentioned features. illustrations contextualised order sensitivity these linguistic items their cross-linguistic diversity. reveals some tendencies diachronic developments translation strategies underlines need include analyses realm research.
